Environments and integrated experiences

Designing integrated experiences and for environments spans multiple projects, obviously no two are alike.

The Card Pilot project I led for the CapitalOne Lab and Cafes required space planning, design and some digital integration (see: www.designstephen.com/work/cardpilot ). I led the activation of a new product launch inside a CapitalOne cafe; design & creative, people & process, digital on-boarding, physical card design, environment, vendors & agency relationships.

Early phase collaboration / looking for signal

I love the ealry phases of product development, the inquiry and discovery, concept development, collaborating and setting a vision. For several years at the Capital One Lab colleagues and I prototyped and tested digital and physical finance products. I led design for these prototypes, ran experiments on new creative, tested product value props and features with real customers. I even worked with artists to develop a truly “local” series of credit cards.

Advertising, Branding, Campaigns

Art Direction and visual design for various agencies/clients

Led advertising creative, UX Design and Research activities for global brands, government, websites and software, interactive advertising concept development, print, logo design, various other creatives, including directing photo and video shoots.

A little bit of everything

Library of Congress, 4+ years managing various workstreams from web services

Played a central role in the massive redesign of the Library of Congress’ main website, LOC.gov, making content accessible, findable, and understandable (simply elegant!) for millions of users. I also designed several exhibit posters, graphics, glossy event take aways. I led the creative work on numerous interactive and web exhibits, often contributing to the visual design and art direction.
